  • What is self storage?

  • Self storage units

    • Our storage units range from 1 to 50 square metres. They are approximately 3 metres high (all dimensions are approximate). 

      Many facilities also offer smaller and larger spaces, from storage lockers to extra-large units.

      Use our size estimator to find the right amount of space for you. And don't forget that you can always move into a smaller or larger unit without any transfer fee.

    • All of our units are dry, clean and well lit. You can also choose among ventilated units, indoor units or outdoor units that are accessible directly by vehicle.

      • Direct access: allows you to drive a vehicle to the unit door for convenient loading and unloading.
      • Ground floor access: this unit type is located on the ground floor.
      • Upstairs access via lift: this unit type is not located on the ground floor and is accessible by a goods lift.
      • Value unit: this unit type is not a standard shape (e.g. may have a sloping roof) and so is cheaper than a standard unit of the same size.
    • Our standard units are approximately 3 metres high.

    • Indoor units are protected from the outside elements and have broad hallways (and elevators in multi-story facilities).

      Outdoor units are usually on one level and offer the convenience of drive-up access.

  • Access and security

    • When you move in, our storage manager will provide you with a personal electronic access code. You use this code to access the premises, and your code only allows access to the floor where your unit is located.

      You are the only one with access to your unit, which is locked with a specifically designed lock owned by you.

      All our stores are monitored by security cameras placed in strategic locations.

    • At all Shurgard stores, you have free access 7 days a week.

      Standard access hours are between 6am-11pm. Please check on our website for your store's specific access hours as it might vary between different stores.

      If you need to extend your access hours to 24/7 access, please speak to our store manager.

    • During access hours, your store manager is available to provide in-person customer service (like answering questions, selling supplies, accepting rental payments and so on).

      With our standard access hours you are able to access your unit between 6am-11pm. If you need to extend your access hours please speak to your store manager.

    • Yes, Shurgard also offers storage units accessible directly by vehicle.

    • Yes. You are welcome to use our trolleys and loading docks while you are at Shurgard for free.

    • All our stores are monitored by security cameras placed in strategic locations.

      You are the only one with access to your unit, which is locked with a specifically designed lock owned by you.

    • Yes. You may purchase a new, sealed lock at any Shurgard store.

    • No. No one else has a key to that lock – just you.

      Your personal Shurgard lock can be re-used the next time you use a Shurgard storage unit.

    • Call your Shurgard store manager for assistance during regular office hours.

    • Yes. When you rent from Shurgard, you can allow access for other people you specify (or restrict access only to yourself).

  • Reservation

    • A reservation guarantees the availability of the selected unit.

      The price and promotions are guaranteed for 3 days from reservation (including the reservation date).

    • There are 3 ways to make a reservation for your unit:

      1. Online: search for your storage unit, then fill in our reservation form to lock in your price and promotion.

      2. By phone: Call us on 0800 500 08 to speak to one of our storage specialist

      3. At the store: visit one of our stores to make your reservation in person.

    • You only need to give us your name, email address and phone number when making a reservation.

      We never ask for credit card information and you don't have to pay anything until you have moved in to our storage unit.

    • No. Reserving a storage unit is totally free. You don’t have to pay anything when making a reservation.

    • Absolutely! You can always change your unit size or type or even cancel your reservation.

      Simply call 0800 500 08 and one of our storage specialists will sort it out for you.

    • Yes. There's no obligation for you when making a reservation. 

      You can always cancel your reservation free of charge. Call 0800 500 08 and one of our storage specialists will sort it out for you.

  • Contract

    • This is what we will need to complete the contract:

      • For private rent: a valid photo ID
      • For business rent: a valid photo ID and evidence of link with the company (i.e.: business card)

      For more information, please contact your local store manager.

    • No. Our rental contracts are month-to-month agreements; no long-term lease is required.

    • Yes. As your requirements change, you are welcome to move to a bigger or a smaller unit at any time without any transfer cost.

    • Yes, just two weeks prior to the actual move out date. Notice must be given in writing – either by e-mail, post or fax.

    • For your benefit and protection, insurance for your stored items is required.

      A convenient and affordable way to get the insurance coverage you need is through Marsh — a customised insurance policy created specifically for Shurgard customers.

    • Notice must be given in writing – either by e-mail, post, fax or in-store.

      The notice must contain your name, your unit number and the date your notice is given.

      You will need to ensure notice is received at least 2 weeks in advance of your actual move out date.

    • Yes, there is a one-time administration fee of €15. You only need to pay this fee one time.

      If you are a returning customer, you don’t have to pay that fee again.

  • Payment

    • Shurgard offers three convenient ways to pay: 

      • Choose direct debit or credit/debit card autopay: enroll in person at any Shurgard store – the rest is up to us. We will automatically debit your bank account or charge your credit card for your monthly bills.
      • Pay over the telephone: pay your bill by calling your Shurgard facility with credit/debit card details.
      • Pay at any one of 21 Shurgard locations in Belgium: walk into any Shurgard facility and give the store manager your account number and the location where you store. Then pay your bill with cash or credit/debit card. Use our store locator to find a Shurgard facility near you.

      Initial payment can be made by credit card, debit card or cash.

    • We are able to accept cash, cheque, debit & credit cards (Maestro, Mastercard, Visa and American Express).
