What is self storage?
Self Storage is a service that offers both domestic and businesses users access to individual secure storage space. The storage rooms Shurgard offers are secure, clean and dry and are accessible - free of charge - using a personal access code and key 7 days a week. Shurgard strives to offer a solution to each situation.

Who is Shurgard?
Shurgard is part of Public Storage and is noted at the New York Stock Exchange. Shurgard is an active member of the Belgian Self Storage Association. Membership of this association requires meeting certain quality standards.

What kind of security is there?
All our stores are monitored by security cameras placed in strategic locations. You are the only one with access to your room, which is locked with a specifically designed cylinder type lock owned by you. The lock is unique and only you hold the keys. You use a personal electronic access code to access the premises.

What storage unit do I need?
You can always contact our well trained Store Managers to assist you in determining what unit size will fit your needs best. Our size estimator will help you to make an easy estimation of the required storage room. An average storage room is three meters high.

What is the minimum rental period? Is there a maximum?
The minimum rental period is one week. You can store for as long as you want, there is no maximum rental period. Contracts are automatically renewed on a monthly basis.

How quickly can I move in?
You can move in on the same day as you make your enquiry providing that you have the relevant documentation needed to complete and sign your contract. This will include photographic ID. Payment of a deposit and a full month’s rental must be made prior to moving in. Please check with your store manager.

Can you help me with my removals?
Yes. We have partnerships with trusted local removal and van hire companies and will be happy to refer you to them so you can make your own arrangements. Please ask your Store Manager for more information.

What does it cost?
The cost of a storage room depends on the size you need. We suggest you use our online size estimator to determine the room size that fits your need. Choose a centre of your choice to receive an exact price quotation. Your room rent will be invoiced monthly in advance.

Are there additional costs?
When signing the contract, you may be asked to pay a security deposit that is equal to one month’s rental, depending on your unit size. This deposit will be returned to you at the end of your lease in accordance with our "Terms & Conditions". Please note that insurance for your stored goods is not included in the rental rate. You will also be asked to purchase a custom-made lock which has been designed to provide the highest security for your belongings. Our rental prices include VAT.

How does the 1 Euro promotion work?
Offer valid for new customers only, selected units only. Excludes costs of lock, insurance and administration fee. Contact your local store for more details.

What about insurance?
A fire and theft insurance for your goods stored at Shurgard is obligatory. For additional peace of mind, we can offer you, in collaboration with our insurance broker Marsh, competitive insurance coverage for your stored valuables. For more information please contact your store manager.

How do I order packing materials?
Please visit our online packing materials shop to order your boxes, bubble wrap, tape and other packing materials. Your order will be ready for you to collect at the store of your choice the day following your order (except on Sundays). Payment takes place when you collect your order. Packing materials can of course also be purchased at all the Shurgard stores during our office opening hours, without reserving online.

How can I pay?
Payment can be made by cash or credit/debit card. You can also pay by direct debit.

When can I access my storage room?
Our customers benefit from extensive opening hours. Access is free of charge at all our stores, and all our stores provide access to your storage room from 6am until 11pm (24h/24h on demand). The office at the store is open for any queries Monday to Friday from 10am – 1pm and 1.30pm – 6.30pm and Saturday from 10am – 1pm and 1.30pm – 4.30pm.

Can I move to another room if I need more or less space?
You are welcome to move to another room at any time as your requirements change.

How do I cancel a lease?
We require a 15 days notice of your intention to vacate your room. On completion of your move-out a refund will be processed for the initial security deposit in accordance with our "Terms and Conditions". Notice must be given in writing, either by fax, post or e-mail.
